Job summary

Howden is seeking a Senior Underwriter for Workers' Compensation to lead complex risk assessments and guide underwriting decisions within the Transactional Risk group. You will balance exposure, coverage needs, and profitability while mentoring peers and coordinating with brokers.

Travel up to 25% for client meetings and industry events, with a focus on building broker relationships and maintaining underwriting standards across a growing North American portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
• Professional certifications such as CPCU, AU, or similar designations preferred.
• 5–8 years of relevant underwriting experience.
• In-depth understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex insurance risks within granted level of authorities, analyzing risk exposures and loss trends.
• Curate a portfolio of business in accordance with guidelines and pricing tools.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to team members; may manage 1–2 direct reports.
• Achieve annual new and renewal business goals, target premium income, and maintain desired hit ratios.
• Travel up to 25% for client meetings and events; build broker relationships.
