Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Wireless Reverse Engineer to lead reverse engineering efforts on unknown wireless systems and to develop automated analysis tools. You will combine wireless, software, firmware, and protocol reverse engineering to understand complex systems and support national defense objectives.

The role emphasizes hands-on technical leadership, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and clear communication of findings to sponsors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
  • At least ten years of reverse engineering experience.
  • Experience reverse engineering software, firmware, embedded systems, or protocols.
  • Hands-on with disassembly/decompilation, debugging, static/dynamic analysis, binary analysis, instrumentation, or protocol analysis.
  • Experience developing software using Python, C/C++, or similar languages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reverse engineering efforts against unknown/undocumented wireless systems.
  • Reverse engineer software, firmware, embedded implementations, and protocols.
  • Use analysis techniques to uncover functionality and implementation details.
  • Analyze software, firmware, protocol, and over-the-air behavior to understand systems.
  • Develop software tools and automated workflows to accelerate reverse engineering.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor staff, communicating findings to sponsors.
