Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Senior Network Engineer – Wireless to design, deploy and optimise enterprise WLAN across office, operational, and industrial environments from our Brooklyn, NY base.

You will lead predictive and onsite surveys, RF analysis, design documentation, and BoMs, while supporting 5G, SD-WAN, and high‑speed connectivity initiatives. Travel to National Grid locations will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience with wireless focus.
• Extensive experience with Cisco and Aruba WLAN, incl. Aruba ClearPass (802.1X, RADIUS, profiling).
• Experience supporting large-scale Wi‑Fi environments across office, operational and industrial settings.
• Proficiency with wireless survey and design tools (Ekahau, Hamina).
• Experience with Cradlepoint or similar 5G networking solutions.
• Strong stakeholder management, vendor coordination, communication, and documentation.
• Ability to travel for site surveys and deployment activities.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and optimise enterprise wireless LAN solutions across environments.
• Conduct predictive and onsite wireless surveys, RF analysis, and validation.
• Lead troubleshooting for complex Wi‑Fi issues including roaming and interference.
• Create and update low‑level designs for Wi‑Fi, NAC, access, and related services.
• Produce Bills of Materials for wireless deployments and upgrades.
• Support Wi‑Fi lifecycle management and standards alignment.
• Provide specialist support for Aruba ClearPass and Cisco ISE (802.1X, RADIUS).
• Support enhanced Wi‑Fi with SD‑WAN overlays and 5G connectivity options.
• Collaborate with IT, operations, vendors, and project teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Maintain high-quality documentation and runbooks; assist knowledge sharing.
• Interpret analytics to identify improvements and reliability gains.
• Support major incidents, changes, and on-call activities.
• Participate in SAFe Agile delivery and Jira-based work planning.
