Job summary

National Grid plc seeks a Senior Network Engineer in Hicksville, NY to support mission critical infrastructure for Generation Operations. You will document standards, contribute to NERC CIP compliance, and lead network projects with a focus on reliability and security.

Responsibilities include designing WAN/LAN, upgrading architectures, maintaining documentation, and supporting incidents. The role requires on-call rotation and occasional travel to power stations, with a hybrid NY/MA work model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
• Expertise in LAN technologies, including VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, stacking, redundancy, and QoS.
• Advanced working knowledge of LAN/WAN networking concepts, topologies and protocols.
• Experience configuring firewalls, intrusion detection sensors, switches, and other network devices.
• Competency with network/systems security concepts and technologies.
• Familiarity with Windows server operating systems, Active Directory, and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with programming in any scripting language such as PowerShell, Visual Basic, or Python.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• CCNP or CCIE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with designing, implementing, and maintaining WAN and LAN infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, resiliency, and scalability.
• Provide technical expertise on network architecture, upgrades, lifecycle management, and emerging technologies.
• Work with team on network projects and complex workstreams, delivering on time and within budget.
• Create and maintain network documentation including standards, diagrams, low-level designs, and operational processes.
• Support major incidents and escalations, driving troubleshooting to resolution and identifying improvements.
• Support planned network changes and maintenance activities.
• Optimize system performance by monitoring and upgrading to maintain a secure environment.
• Secure mission critical systems by enforcing policies and monitoring access.
• Interact with field engineering and operations to resolve issues using problem-solving skills.
• Participate in on-call rotation for off-hours support.
