POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. The ideal candidate will possess specialized technical expertise and will assist in training and mentoring crews of up to 20 members. Extensive travel throughout the United States is required. A 'safety first' attitude and a commitment to doing the job right the first time are essential.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Work in and around wind turbines, including climbing multiple wind towers daily.
- Interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Prioritize safety at all times.
- Install, inspect, maintain, operate, and repair wind turbines.
- Diagnose and resolve issues that could cause turbine shutdowns or malfunctions.
- Perform routine maintenance and test electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions.
- Service underground transmission systems, substations, and fiber optic systems.
- Replace worn or faulty components.
- Provide technical support to ensure product quality and compliance.
- Conduct onsite audits and implement necessary procedural changes.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain one.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in wind turbine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or 2 years' experience with relevant degree/certification.
- Technical degree or certification in mechanical maintenance, wind energy, or related fields preferred.
- Experience with basic power and hydraulic tools.
- Valid Driver's License; CDL preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters high.
- Work effectively in demanding weather conditions.
- Work remotely within turbines as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Maintain necessary certifications (First Aid/CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, ArcFlash, etc.).
- Commit to health and safety standards, including zero injury principles.
- Read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
- Write reports and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Perform basic mathematical operations and follow instructions accurately.
- Demonstrate knowledge of industrial safety practices, including LOTO.
- Possess basic computer skills and familiarity with technical drawings.
- Use hydraulic tension and torque tools, and understand rotor lockout procedures.
