Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Hayward, WI seeks a Senior Burn Crew Member to lead and participate in prescribed fire operations, overseeing staff and volunteers. You will support ignition, control, mop-up, and monitoring, while pursuing ongoing training to keep certifications current and grow within a startup wildland fire program.

This role requires FFT2 qualifications, physical fitness, and the ability to work in variable conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• FFT2 qualified including ICS Intro and Fire Behavior courses.
• Two seasons as FFT2 or agency equivalent.
• Must achieve physical fitness standards per local Fire Program Manager.
• Experience operating various types of equipment.
• Must obtain related licenses or certifications (First Aid, CPR).

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in prescribed fire operations.
• Convey work instructions to team members.
• Work under Burn Boss during fire operations.
• Perform land management duties when conditions preclude burning.
• Handle administrative tasks documenting work activities.
