Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Senior Burn Crew Member to oversee a small team in wildland fire activities and lead prescribed fire operations in a Georgia location. Responsibilities include supervising a crew, maintaining equipment, documenting work, and collaborating with partner agencies to advance conservation goals.

Qualifications include a High school diploma, FFT2, 12+ months fire experience, arduous capacity test, and ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with 12+ months active-firefighter experience; FFT2 qualification including I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130.
  • Must pass the arduous work capacity test (walk 3 miles in 45 minutes carrying 45 lbs).
  • Experience operating and maintaining various equipment.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR training.

Responsibilities

  • Function as both leader and member of a work team, in a high-stress team environment.
  • Convey work instructions to subordinates.
  • Works under close supervision of the Burn Boss during fire operations.
  • Perform other land management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Assist with administrative tasks necessary for documenting work activities as requested by the supervisor.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
