Strittmatter Companies in Virginia- area is seeking a skilled Utility Estimator to join our civil construction team. This role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates for underground utility work, ensuring a smooth transition from bid to build.

You will analyze drawings, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop estimates for labor, materials, and subcontractors, collaborating with Superintendents and Project Managers to refine constructability and sequencing.

Competenze

• 3+ years estimating experience focused on underground utility construction
• Ability to interpret civil utility drawings, profiles, and details
• Familiarity with trench safety and permitting in VA/MD/DC
• Proficient in evaluating subcontractor and vendor pricing

We are seeking a skilled Utility Estimator to join our growing civil construction team. This role is essential to our preconstruction process, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for underground utility work—ensuring a smooth and efficient transition from bid to build.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and site conditions for utility scope
• Perform quantity takeoffs for water, sewer, storm drain, and associated infrastructure
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
• Collaborate with Superintendents and Project Managers to assess constructability and sequencing
• Prepare clear, detailed proposals, bid forms, and supporting documentation
• Evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing for scope alignment and accuracy
• Track and manage multiple bid opportunities and deadlines simultaneously

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of estimating experience focused on underground utility construction
• Proficient in interpreting civil utility drawings, profiles, and construction details
• Solid knowledge of trench safety, local codes, and utility installation practices
• Experience using estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Agtek, HCSS, or similar)
• Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred
• Familiarity with permitting and inspection processes in VA, MD, and D.C.
• Experience with public and private sector infrastructure projects a plus
