Job summary

Coherent Corp. is seeking an experienced Wet Etch Process Engineer to advance GaAs/InP optoelectronic device fabrication. You will develop and optimize wet etch chemistries, control etch quality, and leverage SEM/AFM/XPS/XRD for defect analysis in a cleanroom setting.

Lead cross‑functional teams and mentor junior engineers while refining SPC/DOE methods. This role emphasizes process characterization, troubleshooting, and documentation of recipes and SOPs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in semiconductor wet etch process development for GaAs/InP devices.
• Strong expertise in wet etch chemistry, selectivity optimization and surface roughness control.
• Hands-on metrology with SEM/AFM/ellipsometry/profilometry/XPS/XRD for process verification.
• DOE/SPC and data-driven optimization; cleanroom experience and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience leading projects, transfers, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize wet etch processes for VCSELs, photodiodes, and edge-emitting lasers.
• Define etch chemistry, etch rate, anisotropy, selectivity, and undercut management.
• Use metrology tools for process characterization and defect analysis.
• Troubleshoot deviations and implement corrective actions for yield and stability.
• Integrate wet etch into semiconductor fabrication flow with engineers.
• Establish SPC and monitor processes for continuous improvement.
• Evaluate new chemistries, automation techniques, and equipment.
• Develop and document recipes, SOPs, failure analyses, and training materials.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
