Job summary

Hydrasearch is seeking a Senior/Principal Welding Process Engineer in Stevensville, MD to lead welding and joining capability development for aerospace, naval, and defense programs. This hands-on role centers on process development, qualification, and rapid problem solving within a small, highly capable team.

You will drive WPS, PQR, and WPQ cycles, interpret AWS/ASME/NAVSEA requirements, and help ensure manufacturability of designs through early technical input and process transitions to

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in welding engineering or welding process development in compliance-driven manufacturing.
• Deep knowledge of welding metallurgy, welding processes and inspection methods (VT, PT, RT, UT).
• Experience qualifying welding procedures and developing welder certification programs.
• Thorough understanding of AS9100 special process requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify and solve manufacturing capability gaps and develop internal welding knowledge and standards.
• Drive rapid cycles of welding procedure development (WPS), procedure qualifications (PQR), and personnel qualifications (WPQ).
• Interpret and apply AWS, ASME, NAVSEA and customer welding requirements.
• Provide early technical input to ensure manufacturability and prevent late-stage rework.
• Support development of joining processes including welding, brazing, and tube joining.
• Support make vs. partner decisions and ensure smooth transfer of qualified processes into production.
