Job summary

Konecranes in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced welder/fitter to independently lay out, fit, assemble, tack and weld structural steel components for overhead crane manufacturing. You will produce first-pass welds meeting drawings, procedures and inspection requirements while reading fabrication drawings and weld symbols.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Technical, trade school, or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of combined fitting and welding experience.
• Experience with structural steel fabrication preferred.
• Ability to pass AWS and CWB welding qualification tests.

Responsibilities

• Independently layout, fit, assemble, tack, and weld structural steel components used in overhead crane manufacturing.
• Produce quality welds that meet drawings, procedures, and inspection requirements on the first pass with minimal repair or rework.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, engineering specifications, weld symbols, and work instructions.
• Layout and fit structural components while maintaining dimensional accuracy and drawing tolerances.
• Perform FCAW welding and support MIG and SAW processes as required.
• Determine and apply appropriate fit-up, welding sequence, fixturing, and bracing methods to minimize distortion.
• Verify dimensions, alignment, elevation, and squareness throughout fabrication and welding operations.
• Conduct visual inspections of fit-up and completed welds to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
• Perform grinding, gouging, weld repair, and finishing operations as required.
• Operate fabrication tools, welding equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
• Assist in troubleshooting fit-up, fabrication, and welding issues.
• Support and mentor less experienced fitters and welders.
• Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
• Follow all safety directives and procedures.
