Kimley-Horn in Oakland, CA is seeking a Civil Engineer with 7+ years of experience to join the Water/Wastewater and Utilities team. This is not a remote position.

The role focuses on designing water, wastewater, and recycled water facilities, managing projects, and mentoring staff while ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality outcomes. Collaboration with clients and regulators is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant engineering design experience.
• California P.E. license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• Municipal engineering experience including pump stations, pipelines, and water/wastewater facilities.
• Experience performing hydraulic modeling (WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, etc.).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with leadership potential.

Responsibilities

• Design water, wastewater, and recycled water facilities and associated systems.
• Manage project tasks, design, permitting, and coordination with staff.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver projects.
• Maintain high-quality plan sets and review colleagues' work.
• Develop work plans and manage budgets within client-approved limits.
• Attend meetings with clients, agencies, and regulators to meet requirements.
• Monitor progress, budgets, and schedules; ensure on-time delivery.
