Job summary

GFT is seeking a Water Treatment Design Engineer to join our Water team in California. This hybrid role requires campus attendance at one of our offices and delivers design, optimization, and project management for drinking water treatment and pumping stations, with CAD drawings and equipment selection.

You will lead hydraulic analysis, assess treatment processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and guide projects from feasibility to commissioning.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering; MS preferred.
• PE license required or the ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
• 8+ years of water discipline experience designing water infrastructure projects.
• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Experience in primary treatment, filtration, chemical storage and feed, and advanced water treatment.
• Proven track record leading water design and plant facilities projects.
• Experience with conventional and membrane filtration, hydraulics, chemical feed systems, and alternate disinfection.
• Progressive experience in evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of water facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, optimization, and management of drinking water treatment and pumping systems.
• Develop CAD drawings and select equipment for new or upgraded treatment systems.
• Analyze and optimize treatment processes to boost efficiency and reduce costs.
• Perform hydraulic analysis of plants, pump stations, and piping; select pumps.
• Analyze lab data and operator reports to resolve issues and improve performance.
• Ensure treated water meets regulatory standards and protects public health.
• Manage feasibility studies, project cost projections, and construction/commissioning of new tech.
• Monitor data to refine treatment techniques and act as technical water treatment specialist.
