Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in Morenci, AZ is seeking a civil/ water resources engineer to lead site-wide water data management and modeling efforts. The role focuses on tailings, process water balance, and infrastructure planning within an open-pit copper mining complex.

The candidate will guide multidisciplinary teams, review reports, and develop scopes of work for capital projects, with on-site responsibilities and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with 5 years of experience or Master’s with 3 years in related field.
• Knowledge of civil, geotechnical, water resources, water quality/treatment, or geological engineering.
• Experience in tailings storage, leach stockpiles, water dams, or water balance.
• Proficient in MS Office and CAD, analytical, mapping tools.
• Fluency in English.
• Professional Engineer-in-Training or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication with diverse teams.
• Safety awareness and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to site-wide water systems to quantify water accounting, data measurement, flow mapping, analysis and interpretation.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams in managing operational water data, reporting, forecasting; assign tasks as needed.
• Review and improve tailings, leach stockpiles, and water management systems to achieve good practice.
• Review design/operations reports and provide recommendations to site team and project consultants.
• Oversee maintenance of site-wide water operations and planning simulation models; include water balance scenarios.
• Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting for water engineering areas.
• Draft scopes of work, evaluate proposals, and administer contracts for services/equipment.
• Identify opportunities for site-wide water management improvements and value for conservation or risk reduction.
