Job summary

City of South Salt Lake is seeking a Water Operator IV for the Public Works – Water Division. The role reports to the Water Superintendent and maintains, installs, and repairs water utility equipment per schedule.

The position requires a Class A CDL, Grade IV water operator certification, and relevant experience. You will perform hydrant maintenance, calibrate meters, respond to service requests, and operate heavy equipment while prioritizing safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 4 years of related experience; 2+ years in water system maintenance.
• Valid Utah Class A CDL required.
• Grade IV Distribution Water Operator certification required.
• Flagger Certification required or obtained within 6 months.
• ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification or equivalent.
• Tanker endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, installs, and repairs water utility equipment per schedule.
• Operates water storage, transmission, and distribution systems.
• Monitors system pressures, telemetry, and related equipment.
• Inspects and maintains water meters of various sizes.
• Responds to service requests and turn-ons/offs as needed.
• Completes work orders and records of activities.
• Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes and excavators.
• Maintains fire hydrants and assists with PRV and booster stations.
• Participates in 24-hour emergency response as required.
