Job summary

American Water is seeking a wastewater plant operator to independently operate, maintain, repair and inspect treatment facilities and collection systems at a U.S. military installation.

The role includes sampling, laboratory testing, data logging, and regulatory reporting, with occasional water system support and repair duties. The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, prefer a Class B wastewater license, and bring experience with activated sludge plants and SCADA-based operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• State Class B Wastewater License preferred but a combination of experience and lower license could be considered.
• Three years in operation of activated sludge plants preferred.
• Additional trade-specific courses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate wastewater system to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Collect samples for compliance and process control; perform lab testing.
• Maintain and calibrate monitoring equipment and treatment equipment.
• Record data daily in logs and operations software; prepare reports.
• Assist with water collection system and repairs as needed.
• Follow EH&S policies and communicate effectively with teams and customers.
