Job summary

King County's Wastewater Treatment Division seeks a motivated Operator/Sr. Operator to manage daily plant operations at the South Plant. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize treatment processes to protect water quality and public health.

The role includes leading on-shift crews, training staff, coordinating with supervisors, and responding to emergencies. This demanding position requires rotating shifts, readiness for after-hours calls, and a commitment to safety and continuous

Qualifications

• Washington State Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification or equivalent converted to Washington certification.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant support systems.
• Ability to lead, train staff and respond to emergencies.
• Proficiency with sampling, testing and process control.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and be on call.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain biological, chemical, mechanical and hydraulic processes.
• Troubleshoot equipment and control systems to meet permits and regulations.
• Lead on-site crew, provide training and coordinate with supervisors.
• Respond to unusual occurrences and emergencies, including after-hours on-call duties.
• Maintain records, generate reports, and optimize plant performance.
• Support capital projects and participate in safety and continuous improvement programs.
