Job summary

American Water is seeking a Sr Operator, Water Treatment to independently operate and optimize a treatment facility. You will start, monitor, and adjust plant equipment, ensuring safe, compliant drinking water production under limited supervision.

The role requires performing routine checks, collecting samples, maintaining logs, and coordinating with maintenance staff. A water treatment license and 5+ years' field experience are preferred, with opportunities for growth and a strong benefits

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; college coursework in science preferred.
• 5+ years in mechanical, industrial, environmental, or utility work.
• Experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment.
• Water treatment field experience required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and optimize a water treatment plant for safe production.
• Perform startup/shutdown and routine operational checks.
• Interpret data and adjust processes to maintain compliance and reliability.
• Lead inspections, document logs, and respond to alarms and emergencies.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and coordinate advanced repairs as needed.
• Maintain accurate plant records, samples, and laboratory results.
