Job summary

County of San Luis Obispo is seeking a Supervising Engineer for the Wastewater Utilities Division. The role leads a team of three engineers and drives engineering feasibility, budgeting, stakeholder coordination, and contract administration for five County wastewater systems.

The ideal candidate will have a California PE license, a civil engineering degree, and strong supervisory and public-works expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and seven years of professional level public works, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience.
• Possession of a valid California Certificate of Registration as a civil engineer, traffic engineer, land surveyor or other special licensure (if required) and four years professional civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience.
• A valid California driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of three wastewater engineers, providing strategic and technical leadership for wastewater utilities management.
• Oversee operational support, project development, and engineering feasibility analysis.
• Manage budgeting/financial analysis, negotiations, stakeholder coordination, public engagement, and contract development/administration.
• Supervise staff and provide mentorship and professional development support.
