Job summary

City of Las Cruces is seeking a Wastewater Supervisor to assist the Plant Manager in day-to-day operations, staff oversight, and odor-control facilities. This role supports staff through delegation, training, and performance evaluation while ensuring compliance with regulations.

The position involves coordinating crews, reviewing plans with engineers, responding to emergencies, and driving continuous improvement in plant operations and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Water Technology or related field and four years of experience in wastewater collection system maintenance and operation.
• A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied per City of Las Cruces policy.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and Level IV Wastewater Certification are required.
• If applicable, position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policies.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises the activities of work crews to ensure safe operation of lift stations, sewer lines, and manholes; schedules repairs and new services.
• Procures supplies and equipment; makes decisions within delegated authority and budget constraints.
• Reviews infrastructure topics with engineering staff and inspectors; communicates with engineers and consultants as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations to restore services and system functionality.
• Leads staff meetings, prioritizes tasks, assesses processes, and ensures adherence to policies and procedures.
• Oversees staff development, delegation, coaching, and compliance with regulations.
• Assists in development of operations budget and reviews drawings for plant improvements.
• Maintains records and prepares reports; analyzes data to drive improvements and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Resolves complaints and issues per established policies.
