Job summary

Independence Blue Cross seeks a seasoned VP & Deputy General Counsel, Litigation to lead the litigation group and strategy across the organization. You will oversee a team of attorneys and collaborate with the General Counsel to manage outside counsel, budgets, investigations, and risk mitigation for a health insurance-focused company.

You will drive legal tactics, advise executives, and ensure compliance with evolving laws while supporting the company’s insurance program and regulatory

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school; BA/BS required.
• 15+ years of experience as an attorney, including leading complex litigation (health insurance preferred).
• Exceptional oral and written advocacy skills and superior legal judgment.
• Experience managing outside counsel, including staffing, budgeting, and aligning with corporate strategy.
• Ability to lead a diverse and high-performing litigation team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Independence’s litigation-related activities and team.
• Develop and drive litigation strategies to achieve company objectives.
• Coordinate with outside counsel and oversee budgeting and resources for litigation.
• Provide legal guidance to corporate compliance, HR, and other areas on investigations and related matters.
• Support the company’s insurance program and relationships with brokers/carriers.
