Job summary

Tuskegee University seeks an experienced leader for the role of Associate Vice President / Controller. This executive will oversee Accounting, Bursar Operations, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls.

Reporting to the CFO, the role emphasizes safeguarding assets, ensuring GAAP compliance, coordinating audits, and advancing sound fiscal policies aligned with the University’s mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Eight (8) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience.
• Five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the University’s chief accounting officer and provide executive leadership for accounting and financial operations.
• Develop and implement financial policies, internal controls, and procedures.
• Oversee financial reporting, audits, payroll, accounts payable, and procurement operations.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial statements.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and accuracy of the general ledger and reporting.
• Partner with senior leadership to support financial planning and stewardship of resources.
• Oversee Bursar, contracts/payment, fixed assets, inventory, and vendor management.
• Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline

Eight (8) years of accounting/financial management experience

Five (5) years of supervisory/leadership experience

Strong leadership and strategic financial oversight

Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
