Job summary

The New York Times seeks a Senior Editor for Projects & Initiatives to lead large-scale visual storytelling efforts that connect the newsroom with business and R&D. This in-office role in New York requires coordinating across desks and managing both staff and freelancers to publish ambitious, multimedia stories.

You will guide editorial ideas into visual concepts, supervise teams, and collaborate with editors, designers, and video editors, maintaining Times values and independence.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of editing experience in a newsroom environment.
• Experience in one or more visual journalism disciplines: design, information graphics, video journalism or photojournalism.
• Ability to conceive and create stories that integrate video, photography, text and audio.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong editorial judgment and design sensibility; translate priorities into multimedia storytelling.
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.
• Entrepreneurial and strategic mindset with strong journalistic instincts.
• Deep understanding of Times journalism values and evolving visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Conceive, commission and edit special projects in various story forms.
• Lead and coordinate large-scale, quick-turnaround visual projects.
• Serve as a nexus between newsroom, business, R&D and subbrands.
• Engage with business and advertising colleagues on confidential partnerships.
• Collaborate with freelance staff and other newsroom departments to deliver ambitious visual projects.
• Manage the work of staff and freelance reporters and contributors.
• Shape editorial ideas into visual and multimedia opportunities.
• Act as a project manager for multimedia projects, calling meetings and deadlines.
