Job summary

The New York Times Company in New York City is seeking a versatile visual journalist to report, design and publish graphics and multimedia stories with a primary focus on breaking news and fast-turn news response. You will execute visual coverage on major breaking stories, producing maps, charts, diagrams and interactive graphics on deadline.

You will identify visual story angles, analyze data, and collaborate closely with Graphics colleagues and newsroom journalists across desks.

Qualifications

5+ years of professional experience producing, reporting, or editing visual journalism or news graphics.
Proven track record of identifying visual opportunities quickly and delivering effective graphics in a fast-paced breaking news environment.
Demonstrated experience with data reporting, interface design, and information graphics design.

Responsibilities

Conceive, report, design, and publish breaking news graphics and multimedia stories using a variety of visual forms.
Design and build interactive and static visualizations.
Collaborate with Graphics staff and journalists from other newsroom desks on major breaking news events.
Conceptualize new lines of reporting and analyze data to discover visual stories with accuracy, clarity, and impact.
Share responsibility for regular weekend news graphics coverage, ensuring prompt, high-quality visual response to breaking news.
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
