Job summary

TAIT is seeking a Senior Technical Designer, Video to develop and engineer video/media systems for large-scale themed entertainment and location-based experiences. You will translate creative intent into buildable designs, conduct feasibility studies, and produce high-quality design documents for delivery partners.

You will lead workstreams, mentor designers, and contribute to discipline initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, reliability, and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Media Technology, Technical Theater, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with projection study tools (Mapping Matter, Vioso) and translate outputs into design recommendations.
• Experience with large-format projection, LED display systems, video routing/distribution, processing, and playback.
• Strong documentation skills using CAD/BIM and related toolchains (AutoCAD and/or Revit, Bluebeam).
• Experience developing design intent documentation packages (Single Line Diagrams, Rack Elevations, Cable Schedules, Equipment Lists).
• Working knowledge of image science fundamentals relevant to design decisions (brightness, contrast, color, optics/throw constraints).
• Expected Travel: 10-20%. Must be able to acquire passport for international travel.
• Position is open to remote

Responsibilities

• Develops video system architecture and key technologies to meet project needs and creative intent (projection, LED, routing/distribution, processing, playback/render pipelines)
• Performs projection and performance studies to validate feasibility and communicate constraints, assumptions, and trade-offs.
• Creates and maintains design intent documentation to fulfill project requirements and enable effective handoff to delivery partners.
• Coordinates with creative and production stakeholders to translate storytelling goals into technically achievable media experiences.
• Collaborates with other disciplines to define interfaces and ensure integrated, buildable solutions.
• Supports project bidding and estimating activities, including technical proposals and scope definitions.
• Reviews vendor submittals, shop drawings, and alternates to protect design intent and maintain performance expectations.
• Leads design reviews, offering constructive feedback and ensuring discipline deliverables meet internal quality standards.
• Promotes and contributes to internal standards, templates, and processes for video design and documentation.
• Performs targeted on-site support and documents outcomes (site surveys, installation verification, field changes, troubleshooting).
• Mentors and develops other designers through coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Keeps up-to-date with industry developments and builds prototypes to validate performance for TAIT projects
