Job summary

TAIT is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to design specialized machinery, rigging systems, and structures for live entertainment tech. You will work within safety and quality processes, driving innovative technical solutions across cross-functional teams from concept to opening night.

You will own subsections of projects, collaborate with project management, fabrication, procurement, and field teams, and contribute to robust design documentation and prototyping decisions.

Qualifications

• BA/BS/BFA in technical theater, engineering, architecture, industrial design, or product design.
• 5+ years of experience in a related technical field.
• Experience with 3D CAD modeling and live entertainment tech.
• Background in overhead rigging, machinery, or scenic/facade design is preferred.
• Strong collaboration in cross-functional teams; project-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams to develop innovative technical solutions.
• Plan and execute designs within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Apply TAIT design best practices for manufacturability and onsite assembly.
• Create 3D models, drawings, and supporting documents for fabrication.
• Lead client meetings and produce client-facing drawing packs as needed.
• Communicate effectively with sketches and 2D CAD drawings.
