Ryan, LLC is seeking a Senior UX Designer, Design Systems to own and evolve the design system that powers its suite of digital tax products. The role is a craft-first individual contributor position focused on component quality, pattern consistency, tokens, documentation, and accessibility. All candidates must include a digital portfolio or link in their application. The role will work in a Ryan office three days per week during the first 60 days and then a minimum of one day per week; occasional travel up to 10% may be required.
What you'll do
- Be the go-to authority for the design system, setting and maintaining standards for how components are built, named, documented, and used
- Educate and support designers on system usage and contribution
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and debt in the system and prioritize high-impact improvements
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure design system components translate accurately into code and maintain a tight feedback loop
- Partner with product designers, Product, and Visual Design to align patterns with real product needs and visual standards
- Serve as a critical partner in design system governance from the design and craft perspective
- Design, build, and maintain a library of reusable components in Figma that are well-structured and thoroughly documented
- Own token and variable architecture in Figma and keep it synchronized with engineering implementations
What they're looking for
- 5–8 years of product/UX design experience with meaningful time owning or significantly contributing to an enterprise-level design system used by multiple products
- Proven track record of building, maintaining, and scaling component libraries adopted and trusted by product teams
- Portfolio or work samples that demonstrate design system thinking and execution; all candidates must include a digital portfolio or link in their application
- Demonstrated ability with AI tools and processes that accelerate design and research (e.g., Claude, Figma Make, Lovable etc)
- Deep Figma expertise in variables, tokens, component properties, auto-layout, and library management
- Knowledge of WCAG, ARIA, contrast ratios, and accessibility best practices
- Solid understanding of how design systems translate into code
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and component-based frameworks (React, etc.) is a meaningful plus
