This senior level role devoted to providing operational, technical and maintenance support for the City’s water, wastewater, collection, and distribution systems. Incumbents provide advanced journey-level professional utilities system administration and management work and are considered subject matter experts with the highest level of knowledge, providing consultation to other utilities staff and to management. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion. or supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
Our ideal is highly motivated individual with a strong foundation in utility operations and a proven ability to excel in HR core functions. Demonstrated experience in staff management, project coordination, and mentoring, with a focus on efficient and effective problem-solving. Excellent time management and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong relationships within and outside the organization.
This position is assigned to the Raleigh Water Meters Division, currently overseeing the Meter Reading and Commercial Meter Install/testing/repair programs. Division assignments also consist of monitoring, maintaining, repairing, and replacing the cities 216,000 water meters, vaults, and appurtenances; as well as ensuring Cross Connection compliance of 40,000 public and private backflow assemblies and administration of the Raleigh Water Hydrant Meter program.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction management, engineering or directly related field and five years of related professional experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
