The City of Raleigh is seeking a senior-level utilities system administrator to provide operational and technical support for water and wastewater systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in utility operations and staff management, ensuring effective team leadership and project coordination.

This senior-level role is dedicated to providing operational, technical, and maintenance support for the City’s water, wastewater, collection, and distribution systems. Incumbents perform advanced journey-level professional utilities system administration and management work and are considered subject matter experts, offering consultation to other utilities staff and management. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning and monitoring work, or supervise paraprofessional and support staff, including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and managing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a strong foundation in utility operations and proven ability in HR functions. Experience in staff management, project coordination, mentoring, and problem-solving is essential. The candidate should possess excellent time management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships within and outside the organization.
This position is assigned to the Raleigh Water Meters Division, overseeing Meter Reading, Commercial Meter Install/testing/repair programs, and maintaining approximately 216,000 water meters, vaults, and appurtenances. Responsibilities also include ensuring Cross Connection compliance for 40,000 backflow assemblies and administering the Raleigh Water Hydrant Meter program.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, construction management, engineering, or related field, plus five years of professional experience, or equivalent combination.
Licensing: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Positions typically require standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
Work Environment: Routine indoor office environment.
