Mission Underwriting Services, a remote-first company based in the United States, is seeking a Senior Underwriting Assistant to support the underwriting process and mentor junior staff.

You will quote, bind, and issue policies, verify documents, ensure SOP compliance, and collaborate with brokers and underwriters across multiple lines of business. This role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment.
• 3-5 years minimum directly supporting commercial lines underwriters.
• Bachelor's degree; OR 5+ years of experience in insurance underwriting.
• Working knowledge of PDF, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the year.
• Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

• Quote, bind, and issue policies and endorsements with underwriters.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers.
• Prepare and review policy files for accuracy and completeness.
• Request and verify Broker of Record letters and underwriting documents.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and SOPs.
• Mentor Junior Underwriting Assistants.
• Act as SME and Quality Review Coordinator across lines of business.
• Prepare policies for issuance using PAS.
• Support development and SOPs for Program Series guidelines.
• Lead or assist PAS testing and review with management.
• Participate in special projects and additional responsibilities.

About The Role

The Senior Underwriting Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the underwriting process by delivering high-quality, efficient service to both internal and external clients. This position partners closely with Program Series Underwriters and brokers to ensure accurate and timely policy processing, while also serving as a mentor and subject matter expert within the team.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with Underwriters to quote, bind, and issue policies and endorsements
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers
• Prepare and review policy files and documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Request and verify Broker of Record letters and other underwriting documentation
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Serve as a mentor to Junior Underwriting Assistants
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert and Quality Review Coordinator across multiple lines of business
• Prepare policies for issuance using the appropriate Policy Administration System (PAS)
• Support the development, review, and implementation of Program Series guidelines and SOPs
• Lead or assist in PAS testing and review initiatives in collaboration with management
• Participate in special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Project management software – like Monday.com
• Familiarity with Policy Administration software – Origami or Federato
