Job summary

AXIS Capital in Chicago is seeking a Senior Underwriter for Private Company Management Liability (D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability, and Crime). You will analyze, review, and quote new and renewal accounts, exercising independent judgment to manage underwriting activities and support a book typically over $5 million in GWP.

The role requires strong broker relationships, portfolio management, and a strategic mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 5+ years’ experience in underwriting Management Liability (D&O, EPL, FL, and Crime).
• Direct background targeting insureds with revenues under $3billion in Revenue.
• Strong presentation and people skills.
• Ability to establish broker relationships within the region.
• In-depth knowledge of management liability products and market trends.
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong broker relationships.
• Experience with underwriting systems and risk modeling tools.
• Adaptability to changing market conditions and emerging risks.
• Team player with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Retain existing business while prospecting new opportunities for Private Company Management Liability.
• Manage a book of business for new lines, renewals, and cross-marketing, typically >$5M GWP.
• Meet servicing objectives: quote turnaround, policy issuance, renewal management, documentation.
• Analyze and underwrite risks; develop limits, retention, pricing, and endorsements.
• Develop product and underwriting knowledge continuously.
• Prospect new targets and work with retail brokers to secure proposals.
• Review new business against guidelines and market trends; make recommendations.
• Perform broker marketing calls; occasional out-of-state travel as needed.
• Solicit new accounts and deliver market intelligence to the department.
• Manage select agency relationships to meet objectives.
• Stay up-to-date on economic and legal factors affecting lines and industry.
• Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives.
• Coordinate with branch marketing and profit centers for cross-marketing.
