Job summary

AXA XL's Excess Casualty unit seeks a results‑driven underwriter to grow and manage a portfolio of umbrella and excess casualty risks across diverse industries. You will analyze submissions, apply ratings, and collaborate with actuarial, claims, legal and risk teams to deliver tailored quotes and endorsements.

The role requires solid underwriting experience, strong communication, and the ability to travel up to 20% for client and broker meetings; reporting to the U.S.

Qualifications

• Progressive underwriting experience, including umbrella & excess casualty.
• Experience underwriting construction casualty risks (preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and contracts.
• Experience collaborating with actuarial colleagues.
• Strong project and time-management skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Market and solicit new business opportunities from retail broker partners.
• Analyze submission data and determine degree of risk for each account.
• Utilize underwriting tools to analyze complex casualty exposure.
• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of complex casualty risks across industries.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines and referral requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams to assess risks including actuarial, claims, legal, and risk engineering.
• Provide proactive service to ensure timely quotations, binders, policies, and endorsements.
• Cross-sell with other AXA XL units to maximize deployment of capital.
• Monitor marketplace trends to stay ahead of issues.
• Contribute to regional planning with annual desk-level underwriting plan.
• Travel 20% for client, broker, and internal meetings.
