Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks an experienced Middle Market Senior Underwriter to underwrite commercial property and casualty risks in the middle market segment. You will make analytical, data-driven decisions within delegated authority, managing broker and client relationships and shaping portfolio strategy for your line of business.

Roles require regular in-person visits with local brokers and agents; remote hires outside the designated territory are not accommodated.

Qualifications

• Degree in Business or equivalent typically required.
• 2.5+ years of progressive underwriting experience.
• CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
• Analytical ability to evaluate underwriting risks with qualitative and quantitative tools.
• Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite middle market commercial accounts within assigned authority, assess submissions, terms, and pricing.
• Make independent, data-driven risk selections and pricing decisions.
• Coordinate referrals for accounts above authority or needing specialized support.
• Manage brokers, agents, and insureds; maintain and grow relationships in the market.
• Develop targeted broker strategies to source profitable middle market business.
• Provide timely responses to brokers and clients; negotiate coverage and terms.
• Underwrite higher-limit, complex, or unusual submissions for middle market clients.
• Engage internal partners to structure terms and risk mitigation plans.
• Mentor and coach junior underwriters on middle market practices.
