Job summary

Liberty Mutual Group in Minneapolis seeks an experienced Middle Market Senior Underwriter to underwrite commercial property and casualty risks in the middle market segment. You will evaluate submissions, terms and pricing within delegated authority, while managing broker relationships and shaping portfolio strategy.

Role requires in-person visits with local brokers; remote hires outside the territory are not accommodated.

Qualifications

• 2.5+ years of progressive underwriting experience (typical 3+ years)
• Ability to assess submissions, terms, pricing and profitability
• Strong communication and coordination with internal partners (Claims, Actuarial, Risk Control, Legal)

Responsibilities

• Underwrite middle market commercial accounts within delegated authority, assessing submissions, coverage terms, exposures, loss history and financials.
• Make data-driven risk selections and pricing decisions aligned with underwriting appetite and profitability.
• Coordinate referrals for accounts above authority or needing specialized support.
• Manage brokers, agents and insureds; grow productive relationships and expand market share.
• Provide timely responses to brokers and clients; negotiate coverage and terms while protecting profitability.
• Underwrite higher-limit, complex or unusual submissions typical to middle market clients.
• Mentor and coach junior underwriters on middle market underwriting practices and Liberty processes.
