Senior Underwriter- Inland Marine

Locations: Los Angeles, CA | San Francisco, CA | USA

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable underwriting service to your clients. Your key tasks include underwriting within the agreed business plan and authority, supporting business planning and forecasting, monitoring financial exposure and premium income, maintaining awareness of claims, ensuring reinsurance coverage, building relationships with brokers and clients, and supporting risk design and structuring.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Review submissions including specifications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports, conducting research to assess risk.
  2. Calculate appropriate risk premiums considering risk costs, loss experience, reinsurance cessions, and administrative costs to ensure profitability.
  3. Advise, assist, and service clients on insurance and risk management to ensure satisfaction and requirements fulfillment.
  4. Manage relationships to identify cross-selling opportunities and retain accounts.
  5. Ensure timely implementation of new and renewal accounts according to quality standards.
  6. Coordinate reinsurance placements on an excess of loss basis with internal teams.
  7. Review loss control reports and manage policy endorsements for necessary changes.
  8. Maintain awareness of claims and support settlement processes.
  9. Collaborate with team members, including underwriters, assistants, and management.
  10. Work with other units on cross-selling opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Some experience in Marine Insurance.

Compensation & Benefits

The U.S. pay range is USD 106,500 – 186,500, based on skills, experience, and location. We offer competitive benefits, including retirement plans, health programs, and professional development opportunities. Details at US Benefits at a Glance 2025.
