Job summary

QBE North America in New York is seeking an experienced underwriter to manage underwriting for new business and renewals within defined guidelines and authority levels. You will support profitability of the Accident & Health portfolio and build strong relationships with agents and customers across assigned territories.

You will review quotes, assess risk, and ensure adherence to loss ratio goals and rate targets while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver timely decisions.

Qualifications

  • Necessary Qualifications include a tertiary degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Moderate relevant underwriting experience preferred.
  • Underwriting experience in the insurance industry with risk profiling and pricing tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal business to meet department targets.
  • Prepare quotes, review amendments, and manage plan exceptions.
  • Maintain adherence to loss ratio goals and rate/persistency targets.
  • Develop relationships with agents and customers to understand needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to share information and support objectives.

Time Type: Full timeWorker Type: EmployeeThe purpose of this role is to underwrite new business and renewals within specified guidelines and authority levels, supporting the development of a profitable portfolio under the Accident & Health insurance class. This involves implementing underwriting strategies, building relationships, and making sound decisions to drive business growth and profitability within assigned territories. The role plays a critical part in achieving overall profitability and success in the Accident & Health underwriting business.

Responsibilities
  • Perform underwriting responsibilities including quote preparation, review of amendments, and plan exceptions to achieve department results.
  • Ensure adherence to loss ratio goals and achieve expected rate increase average and persistency goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agents and customers to understand their needs and provide suitable products.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to share information, recommend solutions, and support business objectives.
  • Underwrite new and existing policies in compliance with organisational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide timely and professional service to customers and intermediaries, delivering decisions and solutions promptly.
  • Evaluate risk for new business to ensure profitable growth and identify new business opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports in a timely manner, and meet new business targets.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and influencing others.
Work Experience

Necessary Work Experience includes:

  • Moderate relevant experience.

Preferred Work Experience includes:

  • Underwriting experience in the insurance industry, including risk profiling and pricing tools.
  • Established customer and broker relationships.
  • Underwriting experience in a high-production environment with increasing levels of responsibility.
