Purpose and Job Summary
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for independently screening and underwriting multifamily and commercial mortgage financing programs offered by ORIX’s Real Estate Investment Strategies, including bridge loans for investment through proprietary and/or conduit executions. Transactions will vary widely, primarily focusing on conventional, transitional multifamily, and affordable housing, but may include other commercial real estate assets such as student housing, manufactured housing, and self-storage. Financing structures include pools of senior secured and subordinate debt for stabilized, value-add, transitional, and construction projects.
The Senior Underwriter will work closely with senior credit and originations staff to structure transactions, underwrite real estate collateral, analyze sponsors, negotiate loan documents, develop financial models, perform due diligence, and drive transactions to closing. The candidate will prepare credit memos and present recommendations to the Investment Committee, highlighting transaction strengths, weaknesses, and mitigants.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in real estate, including at-risk loan underwriting, valuation, workouts, development, or portfolio management, with a strong preference for multifamily assets and transitional bridge, affordable, and new construction projects. Must be able to evaluate credit risk and work independently under tight deadlines.
