Job summary

Paycom in Kernersville, NC is seeking a Construction Superintendent to supervise multiple underground utility crews, coordinate daily activities, and ensure projects meet plans and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; construction management or related education is a plus.
• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in underground utility construction.
• Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory or superintendent-level experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain, and utility installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility plans.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, trench safety requirements, and utility construction standards.
• Experience with GPS, laser levels, grade control systems, and construction management software preferred.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise multiple pipe crews and subcontractors on underground utility projects.
• Coordinate daily construction activities for water, sewer, drainage installations.
• Review plans, permits, and schedules to meet contract requirements.
• Plan manpower, equipment, and materials to maintain productivity and schedule.
• Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
• Monitor trench safety, shoring, excavation, confined spaces, and locates.
• Coordinate inspections with municipalities, engineers, utilities and regulators.
• Track progress and communicate updates to management.
• Ensure installation, testing, and documentation of underground systems.
• Identify and resolve field issues and unforeseen site conditions.
• Maintain quality control and ensure work meets specs.
• Review/approve timecards and daily field documentation.
• Assist with planning, budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
• Mentor field personnel to improve performance and leadership.
• Maintain relationships with clients, inspectors, engineers, and utilities.
• Evaluate crew performance.
