Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Charlotte, NC is seeking an experienced engineer to lead a team in the design of complex underground transmission lines up to 500 kV. The role emphasizes duct bank layouts, manhole placement, and cable selection, with strong collaboration with vendors and clients.

Ideal candidates will have 12+ years of leadership in underground transmission, familiarity with industry codes, and proficiency in CYMCAP and XLPE cable design.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations and software.
• 12+ years of experience leading a design team in underground transmission projects.
• Design experience with code requirements, EPRI recommendations, and client requirements.
• Experience with cost estimate development and schedule coordination.
• Experience with XLPE cable design.
• Experience preparing specifications for installation and procurement of materials.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team of engineers, designers, and drafters on complex underground transmission projects.
• Develop cost analyses and design criteria for routing, duct bank layouts, and manhole placement.
• Coordinate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components and procurement.
• Produce and review technical drawings, profiles, and related construction documents.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318).
