Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Geotechnical Engineer to join a leading underground mining team in Welkom. The role focuses on assessing geotechnical risks and designing ground support to ensure safety and operational continuity.

You will conduct site investigations, perform stability analyses, develop monitoring programs, and collaborate with planning and operations to implement robust rock mechanics solutions. A strong background in rock mechanics and ground control is essential.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years' experience in geotechnical engineering, underground mining.
• Experience with Rocscience suite and FLAC.
• Strong rock mechanics knowledge and ground control methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations, mapping and instrumentation monitoring.
• Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, slopes and structures.
• Design and recommend ground support systems (rock bolts, mesh, shotcrete).
• Develop geotechnical monitoring programs and hazard identification protocols.
• Provide technical guidance to mine planning and operations teams.
• Investigate and report geotechnical incidents and propose corrective actions.
