Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the mining industry, is seeking a highly competent Geotechnical Engineer to join their operations based in Welkom . This role is essential for ensuring the stability and safety of mining infrastructure, including open pits and underground excavations. You will conduct in-depth site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics, and provide critical engineering recommendations to mitigate geotechnical risks. Key Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies for new and existing mining operations.
• Analyze soil and rock mass properties to assess slope stability, foundation bearing capacity, and excavation stability.
• Develop detailed geotechnical designs and recommendations for mine waste disposal facilities, tailings dams, and support systems.
• Conduct risk assessments related to geological hazards such as rockfalls, landslides, and seismic activity.
• Monitor ground conditions and performance of geotechnical structures during construction and operation phases.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and drawings for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion focused on the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for stability analysis, ground monitoring, and modeling (e.g., GeoStudio, FLAC).
• Solid understanding of South African mining regulations and best practices in geotechnical engineering.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in remote site conditions and challenging environments in Welkom.
