Job summary

Canonical is hiring a Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer to represent canonical and deliver Ubuntu on partner hardware for Robotics, Automotive, and IoT devices. You will work remotely in the EMEA region, collaborating with OEMs, ODMs and silicon partners to optimize Ubuntu on next-generation chips and bring up platforms with firmware and hardware teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM required or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• Strong track record in embedded Linux development and university coursework.
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
• Experience with C, Python, Bash, and Linux boot process.
• In-depth knowledge of Linux kernel, boot and system-level architecture.
• Experience with bootloaders like U-Boot and ARM-based platforms.
• Proven ability to debug complex issues and work with global teams.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to two weeks per trip, twice yearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide software and system engineering services for OEM/ODM customers.
• Collaborate with partners on platform bring-up and fixes.
• Triaging, reproducing and debugging critical issues with project teams.
• Apply patches to upstream projects and maintain tooling.
• Conduct root cause analysis and document results clearly.
• Coordinate across Ubuntu, firmware and hardware engineering groups.
• Travel internationally for company events and customer visits.
