Job summary

Rigetti Computing in Berkeley, CA is seeking a Senior Quantum Engineer to drive two-qubit gate performance on tunable-coupler superconducting processors. You will design, execute, and interpret experiments to push gate fidelity and scale across many qubit pairs.

You will work across device design, fabrication, software, and theory, shaping calibration methods, error budgeting, and metrology, with autonomy and a collaborative team culture.

Qualifications

• PhD in a related field and hands-on experience calibrating two-qubit gates on superconducting devices.
• Strong background in pulse engineering, decoherence, and error diagnostics.
• Ability to run end-to-end experiments from concept to validated results.
• Proficient in Python for scientific computing and data analysis.
• Excellent collaboration and communication in a cross-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Lead experimental programs to characterize, calibrate, and optimize two-qubit gates on tunable-coupler devices.
• Identify gate-error bottlenecks and isolate their physical origin via targeted experiments and simulations.
• Develop calibration methods with robust automation and scalable deployment.
• Advance metrology for processor Hamiltonian extraction and relate findings to device design.
• Prepare Rigetti devices for internal use and external deployment, and publish key results.
