Job summary

Rigetti Computing is seeking an experienced Quantum Engineer to advance two-qubit gate performance on tunable-coupler superconducting processors in Berkeley. You will design, run, and interpret experiments that push gate fidelity, identify dominant error sources, and eliminate them through pulse engineering and calibration methodologies.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Significant hands-on experience calibrating and characterizing two-qubit gates on superconducting quantum devices; tunable couplers a strong plus.
• Strong Python skills in a scientific context and ability to build tools used by others.

Responsibilities

• Lead experimental programs to characterize, calibrate, and optimize two-qubit gates on tunable-coupler devices, from single-pair physics to full-processor deployment.
• Identify gate-error bottlenecks (coherent control error, decoherence, leakage, crosstalk, TLS interactions) and isolate their origin.
• Develop and harden calibration methods using optimal pulse shaping, dynamical decoupling, and other error suppression strategies with emphasis on robustness and automation at scale.
• Develop and improve metrology for full-processor Hamiltonian extraction and correlate with gate performance; provide actionable feedback for design and fabrication teams.
• Prepare Rigetti devices for internal applications development and external deployment.
• Stay current with literature and translate techniques into production-capable hardware.
• Contribute to publications in superconducting quantum computing with high-quality results.
