Your Role at VGK Law

You will have primary responsibility for overseeing and managing all of the firm's trust administration and probate matters, from initial client consultation through completion.

You will also maintain an independent estate planning practice, with full autonomy over the matters assigned to you. The division of estate planning responsibilities between you and the Managing Attorney will be thoughtfully structured around your experience, areas of expertise, professional interests, and the evolving needs of the firm.

Your Key Responsibilities

Lead Our Trust Administration & Probate Practice

• Assume primary responsibility for the firm's trust administration and probate caseload.
• Independently manage matters from initial consultation through final resolution.
• Advise trustees, executors, personal representatives, and beneficiaries on their legal responsibilities and available options.
• Prepare, review, and oversee the legal documents, court filings, correspondence, and other work required to move matters forward.
• Manage deadlines, coordinate with clients and other professionals, and ensure matters progress efficiently and accurately.
• Provide leadership and direction to support staff working on trust administration and probate matters.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows, strengthen client communication, and enhance the overall efficiency of these practice areas.

Independent Estate Planning Responsibilities

• Independently manage assigned estate planning matters, from initial consultation through execution and completion.
• Develop and implement estate planning strategies tailored to clients' individual circumstances and objectives.
• Prepare and review comprehensive estate planning documents.
• Exercise independent professional judgment and maintain primary responsibility for client relationships and matter management.
• Collaborate with the Managing Attorney to establish a division of estate planning responsibilities that reflects your strengths, interests, and experience.
• Participate in shaping and expanding the firm's estate planning services as your role evolves.

Attorneys who bring new clients or matters to the firm will have the opportunity to earn additional compensation for those contributions. Your success here will not depend on maintaining a personal book of business.

Qualifications

We are seeking an attorney who offers:

• At least five years of experience in California trust administration, probate and estate planning
• Strong working knowledge of California trust and probate law and the ability to manage complex trust administrations and probates from start to finish.
• Experience with estate planning, including drafting and reviewing estate planning documents.
• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
• The ability to manage a substantial caseload with strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Sound professional judgment and the confidence to lead client matters independently.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• A collaborative, supportive approach to working with attorneys and staff.
• A commitment to continued professional development and high-quality client service.
• Availability to work from our Marin County office a few days per month.
