Job summary

Highway Transport Logistics, Inc. in Chicago, IL (Joliet area) is seeking a Mechanics II to perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers to meet company and DOT standards.

You will be the diagnostic and service provider ensuring drivers and carriers have safe, roadworthy equipment. The position supports inventory control and accurate documentation, communicating effectively with drivers and leadership.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of mechanical experience required.
• Must possess necessary tools for assigned duties.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers to ensure DOT compliance and safety.
• Assist other technicians with tractor and trailer repairs.
• Conduct DOT inspections and brake inspections/repairs.
• Service air systems and brakes on equipment.
• Perform mid-senior level diagnostics and repairs on suspension, driveline, HVAC, electrical, and related systems.
• Lift and install heavy components (starters, clutches, brake drums) as assigned.
• Ensure parts and labor are charged to the correct repair order.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment per OSHA standards.
• Welding and light fabrication as needed.
• Verify equipment has required licensing/registration before roadworthy status.
• Practice safe work habits and use personal tools properly.
