Job summary

Highway Transport is seeking Mechanics II for the Joliet/Chicago area to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on tractors and trailers. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and equipment utilization, with a focus on effective communication and documentation.

The position offers a competitive pay range and a comprehensive benefits package. Second shift runs Monday-Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with opportunities to work on a variety of mechanical systems and components.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of mechanical experience.
• Must possess necessary tooling to perform duties: sockets/wrenches 1.25” and lower; air tools 1/2” drive and lower; volt meter/test light; acceptable tool chest to store personal tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers.
• Assist other technicians with repairs and diagnostics.
• Conduct DOT inspections and brake inspections/repairs.
• Service air systems and brakes; diagnose mid-senior level issues across suspension, drive train, HVAC, electrical, and related components.
• Move and install heavy components (starters, clutches, brake drums) as assigned.
• Ensure parts and labor are correctly charged to the repair order.
• Maintain OSHA-compliant, clean and safe work environment.
• Welding and light fabricating; ensure roadworthiness licensing and registration.
