Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company seeks a Senior Trial Attorney to lead civil litigation defense or subrogation matters for property & casualty lines. You will independently handle cases as lead or with a team, delivering strategic advocacy and strong client communication.

The role requires a JD, active license, 8+ years of relevant experience, excellent negotiation and leadership, and a willingness to travel. Offices across the nation, with hybrid remote options and CT meetings.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active state license where the position is located.
• Typically 8+ years of civil litigation experience in property and casualty defense or subrogation.
• Significant litigation experience in liability defense or subrogation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly collaborative, able to work with staff and attorneys on-site and remotely.
• Strong negotiation skills and risk assessment abilities.
• Ability to adapt to changes in law and technology in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates trial advocacy as lead counsel or team member with high quality work product.
• Manage cases with minimal oversight from senior attorneys and leadership.
• Leverage technology to enhance case management and efficiency.
• Stay updated on changes in law, local rules and procedural requirements.
• Provide sound opinions on case valuations and communicate updates to clients and claims.
• Mentor junior attorneys and staff; model engagement and collaboration.
