Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is seeking a qualified engineer to provide expert leadership on transportation projects for Virginia's Department of Transportation. You will lead planning, scheduling, budgeting and coordination with internal staff, local governments, consultants and FHWA.

You will serve as responsible charge engineer, directing work and managing resources to ensure on-time delivery while maintaining compliance with state and federal rules.

Qualifications

• Degree in Construction, Engineering or related field.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license (PE).
• Experience applying federal, state and local transportation rules and standards.
• Experience in roadway design and construction.
• Experience in preliminary engineering and construction activities.
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling and project controls.
• Proficiency with computers and engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering expertise in assigned program areas and advise on project issues.
• Coordinate with local governments, contractors, and agencies to ensure project success.
• Develop and monitor policies, procedures, and practices for engineering projects.
• Serve as responsible charge engineer for planning, organizing and directing work to meet objectives.
• Oversee design and construction with project controls and budget adherence.
• Prepare written reports, presentations and technical letters with recommendations.
