Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer to oversee the design and preparation of preliminary, right-of-way and final contract plans for highways, structures, drainage and environmental issues. You will monitor and direct work to complete projects on schedule and within budget, providing project management services for VDOT and locally administered urban area projects.

Skill in applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field staff, contractors and FHWA representatives.

Responsibilities

Oversee design and preparation of preliminary, right of way and final contract plans for a wide range of projects related to highways, structures, drainage and environmental issues.
Monitor and direct work activities and resources necessary to complete assigned projects.
Manage Interstate and Primary design projects to ensure projects are completed on-time and on-budget.
Provide project management services for VDOT and Locally Administered urban area projects.
Communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs.
